Open System Flat-Bed
Metal Detector

The Open System Flat
Bed metal detector (OSFB) finds its utilization
mostly in a production line, placed on one or both sides, on top or/and
under a conveyor belt.
The OSFB's particular use is mostly there where it is a
requirement to obtain easy access to the product or conveyor belt.
Different
components
The OSFB in
general has two main components. The first component, in the illustration,
indicated by (A), is the robust designed detection sensor. In some cases
sensitivity can be increased by adding a second
detection sensor, indicated by (B). The electronics are integrated in a
separate control box, as show in the illustration as (C).
Removing
contaminated products
When the detection of an
unwanted metal occurs, there are many ways to remove the product from the
production line. In consultation with the customer, a complete system
including a metal detector and rejection mechanism can be provided, but
mostly the existing "product removing mechanisms", can be used for this
purpose by coupling the OSFB output signal by means of a PLC.
OSFB output
signal

Standard the OSFB is
sold without a mechanical product rejection mechanism. The output signal is
in the form of a low-power relays with open contacts or, on request, a
regulated signal of 0 or 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 10 Volts or NPN / PNP. This opens
nearly indefinite possibilities in the electronic steering of other
mechanisms or equipment in order to remove metal contaminated unwanted
products.
In general
The OSFB can be obtained
in almost all sizes and shapes and is in general considerably more
affordable than closed system tunnel-shaped metal detectors. If required,
the OSFB is available on request up to IP68 water and pressure tight and
explosion protected. |
