Introduction:

The VLF-DD-1 is a multi-purpose industrial hand-held metal detector for divers that can be used on many different bottom types. The applied electronics is of exceptional quality that makes the VLF-DD-1 an easy to operate device, where a number of functions are integrated for automatic electronic adjustments. On the outside there are only the necessary knobs or dials for optimal adjustment.

In the diving industry:

In the diving industry this detector can be used for locating lost or hidden metal objects underwater in bottoms of different compositions. It can, for example be used to trace pipelines or locate cables, anchor chains, anchors, rudders, screw propellers, etc. Very small objects can be detected at relatively large depths where the sophisticated electronics ensures a good pinpointing, in spite of a relatively large detection antenna (standard diameter 20 cm)

Use as a semi professional or hobby detector possible?:

As a semi professional or hobby metal detector, the VLF-DD-1 is more then suitable, thanks to the technically sophisticated high-quality industrial electronics. It can be used for the detection of lost objects underwater like jewels, coins and many other objects for example around shipwrecks. Iron can not be rejected in spite of most standard hobby metal detectors.

VLF-DD-1 FUNCTIONS

"Tune" dial:

De TUNE-dial is meant to power On or Off the detector and to adjust the sensitivity and click rate that is sounding in the speaker. The click rate is best standard set to a pulse rate of approximately 5 pulses  per second that increases to even a complete tone, varying in frequency when an object approaches the vicinity of the search antenna.

In areas where the detector experiences interferences, the penetration depth or click rate can be reduced, even to almost zero. Interferences can be caused by, for example minerals that are part of the sea or river bottom, electricity cables etc.

"DEL" dial for rejecting unwanted metals:

The DEL-dial is meant for to reject minerals in the bottom and undesirable metals such as for example several aluminium foils, small aluminium objects, aluminium coated paper etc. Also bottom interference, caused by minerals is easily solved with this adjustment dial. However at the same time other objects such as iron, pipelines, cables, etc. are not being rejected. The VLF-DD-1 is not able to reject iron.

Why a PULSE-INDUCTION detector ?

Nearly all all-round land-mobile metal detectors are based on the so-called Induction-Balance technique. The VLF-DD-1 however is a so-called Pulse-Induction metal detector. This name describes the principle on which the functioning of the VLF-DD-1 metal detector is based on.

Because of this, the penetration capacity (maximum depth) of the average Pulse-Induction based metal detector is much larger then that of an Induction-Balance type detector (mostly more then a meter on relatively small objects)

For hobby or semi-professional purposes this detector can be very suitable for archeological research of for example shipwrecks or for the location of lost objects like coins, jewels etc. in recreational waters.

Non Motion detector:

The VLF-DD-1 has a so-called base tone or in other words an ongoing present click tone of approximately 5 X per second that builds up to a faster click rate and further to an ongoing continues tone, varying in frequency, depending on the shape, size and more of the object that is passed by the search antenna. Undesirable objects that are rejected with the DEL dial, will be ignored. Also possible undesirable bottom interference will be rejected.

Ground elimination:

At some places, working with a metal detector is difficult or even impossible due to mineralization in the bottom, caused by iron oxide or other causes. When this is the case, the detector will react as if metal is present, while this is not the case. For this reason the VLF-DD-1 is equipped with a (partially) automatic ground elimination filter which adapt on nearly all bottom compositions. Where the Induction-Balance detector stops functioning due to bottom interference, the VLF-DD-1 will function further without problems.

Battery charger:

The battery charger has a chip which ensures that the integrated rechargeable batteries can never be overloaded. The battery charger and rechargeable batteries are part of the standard package. Charging takes place from outside by means of a connector on the back of the detector. The rechargeable batteries remain in the detector during charging.
